Default 4th gear going out?

Hey guys I got my car back last week after it sitting a year. Anyways after driving it for a while my 4th gear is not making good noises. It goes into gear no problem but when I get on the gas there is a nice metal on metal grind plus you can see the shifter move the more rpms you have. So I am guessing its rebuild time since the trans has almost 157k on it. I was looking into new parts and it seems the input shaft and 4th gear come together. Any ideas?

If it's only 4th, check the pilot bushing. If it's only the high gears (4-5-6) it's most likely the clutch. If neither of those pan out, you may have a bad inputshaft or mainshaft bearing, but I'd check the other items first.

It has a new pilot bushing and a new clutch. The original one went out at 156k and the pilot bushing had about 1.5 times bigger hole than it was supposed to. Yeah its mainly 4th. 2nd might do it once in a while. It was making a lot of noise before I changed the clutch due to a bad throw out bearing (it was starting to fall apart). Here is what my pilot bushing looked like in the car.

Ok.. Your inputshaft bearing may be going bad, maybe from worn or under-shimming. You may find the pilot ruined again if that's that case. Check for inputshaft end-play when you pull it, and pull the midplate first to check it out.

will do that this weekend since I have to change the clutch disc out. Its slipping due to oil. Ill check bearing play and the pilot bushing again.
