Default Reverse light switch broken

I put a new one on the other day and as soon as I snugged it up it broke. My memory is cloudy, but shouldnt I be able to pull the shifter out and access the sensor from in there to screw it back out? Just wanna make sure before I go that far and can't. Thanks for the help guys!!

It's on the side of the Tranny..you will have to get under the car.

I know where it is. I broke the new one flush on the tranny. Just cant remember if I can access by removing the shifter to screw the broken one out to replace it again. Trying to avoid drilling holes in the new sensor to back it out cause its tight under there.

If you know where it is then you will know that the only way to get to it is under the car.

Other than that I don't understand what you are lookin for..lol

Lol..........maybe I'm not explaining it well enough. I unscrewed the old one from under the car and screwed the new one in. Well when I was snugging the new one up it broke flush with the housing. The only way I can figure to get it back out now is to either drill into the broken sensor to try to unscrew it so I can put a new one back in since the nut part of the sensor broke off or pull the shifter out to see if I can get two nuts on the threads to unscrew it from the inside. I know the shifter has to make contact with it but I cant remember if its right under the shifter or deeper in the trans. Does that make better sense?

Ok..I got ya now.

Ya man that thing is way deep in the Trans. You will have to go under the car and get at it from the outside any way you can.

How did it break..were you crankin on it?

Actually no I wasnt crankin on it. The material the new sensor is made of is really cheap. The stock one is brass it looks like but the new one looks like thin aluminum. I saw the nut snug up and went to give it that extra 1/4 turn like you would do on most everything and pop!! So here I am with a delima and still no reverse lights. The lights arent really a problem just hard to see to back up at night is the only reason for tryin to fix it.

I bought mine from GM for about $25. I don't trust aftermarket sensors.
