Default shim problem?

i recently bought an 02 ss and the seller said he installed a spec stage 3+ clutch. it requires alot more effort to get into gear than i know it should because ive had other fbodys. i know alot of spec clutches require the slave to be shimmed. if he didnt install the shim could that be a cause of my problem?

Generally speaking, I believe not having a shim would keep it from going into gear all together or grinding on higher rpm shifts..

Depends on how long the shim needs to be. If it needs like .500" then yeah I dont see it going in at all. If it only needs .120" then it could just be enough to not let it disengage all the way and cause the OP problems. But like I also said, it could possible be other issues as well. For instance, air in the hydros, poor fluid quality, bad hydros. Its just a process of elemination. Start with the cheap and easy and work up to the harder things like pulling the trans to check for shim dimensions.

Just a piece of metal or any other material used to move the slave closer to the clutch for proper clearance.
