Tailshaft bushing replacement write-up?
I have a t56 that I need to replace the tailshaft bushing on before I put it in my car. I was wondering if anyone has a write up on how to do it... Im very nervous about touching this transmission... lol Thanks!

I think that should give you your answer.... ;-)
You need to pull the tailhousing off. Knocking out the old bushing is easy, but you need special tools (or GREAT luck/care) to install the new one without damaging it. Finally clean and reseal the tailhousing back onto the trans. Not a major task, but not a DIY/first-timer's task either...

You can drive one in and hope it doesn't distort. If it does, don't ask questions, just get or borrow the right tool:

I never had a problem w/ any GM 27 spline output tailhousing bushings in autos or manuals. One T56 tailhousing made me a fan of the tool.

I had a piece of pipe modified & machined to the correct diameter, and it works perfectly. I think I paid 20 bucks or so. It is used with the shop press. I found that it is best to use a press as opposed to hammering it in. This way you will avoid damaging the top part of the bushing.
