Default A Noise Needs Diagnosing.

This just started recently within the past week. Whenever I'm in first gear to get the car going from a stop or whatever and I'll have clutch halfway out to get going it will make a grinding noise and then following that you can smell something like when you weld metal. It doesn't slip nor does it have problems shifting into any other gear.

Anyone have a clue?

Car is a 1996 Z28 with original clutch and everything.

You might have look at the clutch (easier said than done). Sounds like your disc is worn.
