Yep, LT1 T-56's are strong as hell and shouldn't blink an eye...

FWIW, there is several 550+ rwhp LT1's in my area running stock t-56s for a LONG time..

I haven't had any problems with the tranny itself. You'll probably need to upgrade the hydraulics though.

I've heard the same about the LT1 T-56. Very strong in comparison to the LS1 variety.

LT1 T56's were made by Borg-Warner, not Tremec. Personally I think the crappy LS1 hydrualics make them trash the synchros. LT1's have a different style slave cylinder.

I think it may be more correct to say that people beating on them trashes the synchros. If you drive it like you are trying to break it, you probably will.....

Pro stock john, He`s a moderator over in the FI section is running a T56 with around 700rwhp, Harlen is making over 800rwhp on a T56 (I think he`s still on the T56?) the trans will hold more then Most of our cars will ever make as long as you shift them right. All T56s were borg warner until 01 which is when they start being made by tremec and got all the updated syncros and that good stuff.

Ok
are we talkin Hydraulics or Trannies.
Basically the trannies are the same , Except for the Hydraulics.
Different names but the same tranny. Tremec Bought Borg-Warner.

What I mean is that I think there are a lot of people driving around with a clutch that doesnt fully disengage, because of their hydraulics, which trashes the synchros.

Some people dont realize it before its too late.

Tremec took over building the T56 in '99, I cant see any difference between them, but it does seem that earlier ones are less likely to fail.

The BW and Tremec trannies are not the same.....

I have torn open both and the parts used in the tremecs are much cheaper quality than the BW units...

And yes, LS1 hydraulics suck *** which also kills trannies. LT1 T-56's are damn near bullet proof....I've got buddy's with 120K+ of HARD miles on stock untouched LT1 T-56's.

Only if you swap the front cover and input shaft which isnt hard but you have to disassemble, reshim and assemble the transmission.

If you just rebuild that tranny you have you will be fine.
I have rebuilt lt1s and LS1 trannies and the only difference I saw were the blocker rings and the name on the side. Other than that they Looked Identical. I wouldn't worry about all this lt1 trannies being tougher. The Rebuild kit for them is actually the same part part number for both.
But if you wanna believe it all go ahead and start mixing parts and builtin you a tranny from an lt1.
Its just a waste of money and time in my opinion.
