Default 5th gear problem

***** into all gears fine, but when i go to 5th...even though it feels like its engaged...as soon as you let off the clutch it grinds. even trying to rev match is a no go....almost as if the shifter isnt moving up far enough to engage the gear....any ideas on this one? t56 in a 98 t/a

Sounds like you have a possible issue with the shift fork. Probably have a fork pad or pads missing or broken.
