Maybe you should practice. As for a burnout, as soon as you let the clutch out, give it some gas and move your left foot over to the brake and apply light pressure. You need to find the point where it holds the car still, but doesn't bog it. (practice) Most times I just turn my right foot sideways and hold the brake with my heel and push the gas with my toes, then let the clutch out and move my left foot over to the brake. Whatever works for you.
When you launch, go off of the last amber light on the tree. If you wait for the green to light up, you're too slow. I like to take off easy with my stock rear and just let the clutch up fast from an idle and stomp the gas at the same time. It's not the greatest for 60' times, but it's easier on parts. Again, practice before you go to the track.

Don't worry you'll get used to it.

His 2000 LS1 power is gonna do all the *** handing.
Maybe you should drive his car and you drive his.
The you will have the Skill penalty and he will have the LT1 Penalty
watch the lights , when you are staged run the rpms up to around 1500 or so.
when that last yellow light comes on dump the clutch and floor it .

with your level of experience with the standard tranny , I wouldn't recommend even trying to power shift. My end up with your engine all over the track in little pieces.
Burn outs aren't too hard
the way I do it is Go around the water, not through it. No need draggin water onto the track with your front tires.
Back up close to the water, put it in first. rev up a bit and dump the clutch and immediately put my left foot on the Brake and give it the gas.
then you just have to feel what you need with brake and gas to keep them turnin with out makin much foward motion.
when you feel they are warmed up enough let off the brake and rollon. But don't shoot though the lights.
some tracks don't like you doing that.
Good luck and What He said
Practice

you need a few weeks of practice on the street before you get really good at smokin through the gears. as for the burnout. if you have stock tires dont waste the rubber. just spinum over a few turns to get the water off them. stock tires get greasy with a burn out therfore you will spin bad off the line and get beat even worse. i launched at 1800 and rode the clutch out quick, dont dump it on the lil 10 bolt , it got me 2.0 60's on stock tires.
