Default Difference in rebuilds?

I'm looking to get my T-56 rebuilt from either Tick or TDP..

Both Level 2 pkgs.

All I want to know is what is the main difference in the 2 rebuilds? Parts/Etc
Looking to keep car below 500hp.
Few of my buddies that drive T/As tell me to go Tick.(I want to know why?)
I know I'm opening a can of worms with folks differences in opinions.
I Just need that final push to choose which one to go with...

Plus side I live close to Dallas/Ft. Worth area for TDP but distance is not the issue I want my Transmission done right and to know what I'm getting.

Clutch wise, I'm still undecided on that one. Here are my choices for that

Monster lvl 2
Ls7 Clutch

I will be using the Tick Adj Clutch master with all the added parts as well.

(My Car) 2000 Pontiac Trans Am/M6 106k on odometer,original clutch and Tranny.

Car is used for DD/Street

Don't compare "stages" . Compare the actual parts that are included in the different "stages" when deciding who to use for a rebuild. Just about every single rebuilder uses the same quality and brand parts in their rebuilds.

I'm sorry I did not mean for it to sound like i was comparing or asking about "Stages".

All I want to know is what is the main difference in the 2 rebuilds? Parts/Etc
I dont know about any of these parts that are being used that is why I'm asking. If the parts are the same then Ill go TDP.. But if there is a difference in parts used I want to go with the one that is gonna give me the best output..Ill list the parts for each one.

It seems Tick gives a tad bit more details and/or more parts in there rebuild vs TDP..Im a noob to these parts and just need a lil help to understand If i should choose Tick over TDP. In the end it will be my choice who to go with,I just want to know what im getting.

This is all foreign to me and just need a lil info from others.

Tick
* Bronze 1-4 Fork Pads
* OEM 5-6 & Reverse Fork Pads
* Billet 3-4 Synchronizer Keys (with upgraded springs)
* New OEM 1-2, 5-6 & Reverse Keys & Springs
* Carbon Fiber Synchronizer (blocker) Rings
* Steel 3-4 Shift Fork
* New 1-2 Synchronizer Assembly
* New 3-4 Synchronizer Assembly
* New Front Seal
* New Rear Seal
TDP
-Carbon kevlar synchro rings
-Keys and springs
-Fork pad kit
-Seals
-Billet 3-4 keys
-Steel 3-4 shift fork

These are the additional parts i can get from TDP at additional cost
New 1-2 slider assembly
New 3-4 slider assembly
New 5-6 slider assembly
New Reverse slider assembly
Input shaft or Mainshaft journal repair
New 1-6 gears
Master Bearing kit
Bronze 1-4 shift fork pads

Since TDP is closer to me that seems more logical,as i can drive there in 45 mins and drop my Transmission off..
But as i said I was only looking at Tick due to all ive heard about them from the forums and

Few of my buddies that drive T/As tell me to go Tick.(I want to know why?)

TDP uses the exact same brand & quality parts. If you want the parts listed in the Tick Stage 2 rebuild, you need to ask TDP specifically what is the price for a rebuild using the exact same parts internally as the Tick 2 kit comes with. If they are within 45 minutes of you, why ship the unit half way across the country and risk it either getting damaged in freight or stolen?

The only difference is that Tick includes the 1-2 synchro assembly and 3-4 synchro assembly, plus they include the bronze 1-4 fork pads.
The reason that I don't include the synchro assemblies is that you don't always need them. As long as the engagement teeth have good points, then there is absolutely no need to replace them. Therefore I only replace them if necessary, on a case-by-case basis. Theres no sense in making you pay for something that you may not need.
I don't include the bronze fork pads due to the fact that I don't recommend using them. The sidewalls will wear much faster than the stock pads, so it is not a good upgrade in my opinion. However, I do keep them in stock in case a customer requests that I install them.

Do a search on this site or Google for "TDP", & "T56" and you'll find a ton of positive feedback. A lot of people here on LS1tech have used my shop for T56s as well as Corvetteforum, Camaroz28.com, etc etc.

I also carry my own line of clutches (Diamond Clutch) that have been on the market for 4yrs now. I can make you a package deal on a clutch kit and T56 build Combo. Check out the website(s) in my sig.

Anyway, hope to do business with you. Just call if you decide to go with my shop, as I'm usually not online during the day. Thanks!

Thank you thesource and TDP for clarifying things for me in detail..And as you said why ship half way cross country..Tons of good feedback from both TDP and TICK on forums...

I will be getting in touch with you TDP by phone. So I can go into more details with you on the rebuild and clutches that you carry..

Don't rule us out just yet.

We ship using UPS Ground, fully insured. We ship a ton of these things back and forth and the percentage of damages that we've seen are very, very low. As long as the transmission is packaged according to our 15 Step Shipping Process, you will be a happy camper: http://www.tick-performance.com/tickshift/shipping/

Our Level 2 is much more inclusive that the specific competition you mention in this thread. We build a TON of these things and the vast majority are severely worn on the 1-2 and 3-4 synchronizers. We include these in our Level 2 kit as well as the bronze 1-4 fork pads (which are much stronger than stock) because it's necessary in order for us to stand behind every transmission we build with a One Year unlimited mileage Warranty.

As thesource mentioned, most T56 Rebuilders in the nation use mainly Tremec replacement parts, which are high quality. The deciding factor should be whose reputation you trust the most. I won't trash any other vendor on this forum, but you can rest assured that absolute customer satisfaction is our priority and we're not happy until you, the customer, are.

We're also offering FREE Shipping Both Ways (a $200 value) on all T56 Rebuilds until the end of the year.

Please let me know if you have any other questions, and best of luck regardless of what sponsor you choose to do business with. We're all enthusiasts!

I have not ruled anyone out yet..I have heard excellent reviews from all sources from in person to the net for both of your companies. I will be calling both of you to go over specifics for rebuilds/clutches etc..

Very happy with my rebuild. Before transmission was very jacked up damn near un-drivable after it hasn't skipped a beat, and i beat on my stuff everyday kudos to tick. Plus you can get a package with the master cylinder and clutch cheaper. id go with the monster btw.

I have the stage 2 tdp build on my t56. I have seen what bronze pads can do. When I bought my car it had a built trans from "another" sponsor and the bronze pads were worn out significantly. It had less than 3000 miles on the build. I have had my built t56 from tdp since the beginning of march and it is still smooth. I still have the bronze pads and billet keys that were used in a trash bag!. The billet keys that were used were broken and were not the same TDP uses. I made sure to ask and compare and Jason was kind enough to show me the differences in his keys. I am not sure if they are still using the same keys but they were ugly. Call jason, he will hook you up. Long time buyer and believer. Jason hardly advertises even though he is a sponsor but he has a reputation more by word of mouth. What does that tell you? I am sure you have not found anything negative on his builds. Which is the reason he is being compared to a BIG name company. Good luck either way, I also have his diamond stage 3! I was at his shop when a cylinder head porter from nascar was there to buy a stage 3. I was like wtf! This dude has cash like a **** and came to buy a diamond stage 3! His reputation is getting out there quickly!

I have gone to TDP twice now with 2 different vehicles and other than not being use to a stiffer clutch feeling, I have no complaints. The staff is top notch and works very fast. I dropped off my C6 and had it back in 7-8 days, cant remember exactly. As far as comparing the different builders I can not only cause everyone I talked to refured me to TDP. Seeing and feeling the difference, quality and time, TDP will be my transmission builder for FBody's for as long as I need. A+.

I don't know why you would think that Tick is a BIG name company like Liberty or something... It's 2 guys and a shop for the most part. They built mine and when I dropped it off I couldn't count the number of T-56's in the shop. They really do build a TON of these things.

I don't think you would be disappointed with either choice. Tick was the obvious one for me since I'm only a few hours away. I can only say good things about the customer service and workmanship Tick has provided me and several of my friends with. The first time I visited their shop it was still a small operation. They hadn't even thought about bringing their master cylinder kit to market yet. Their business (and the one next door) has exploded and it hasn't gone to their heads.
