Could it be the shifter linkage?

Could it be the shifter linkage? My tranny isn't engaging into 6th. Sometimes it takes 4 or 5 tries to get it to "go in" and I was wondering if there is a chance the linkage might be out of adjustment. Has anyone else had this problem?
5-6 and and reverse run on another shift Rod.
actually one runs through the other.
I have seen several times that the center shaft gets bent and binds up on the outside shaft.
there is no adjustment but it can be bent back into shape on a press.
You just have to totally dismantle the tranny to get it all out.
