Transmission Install Quick Question

Default Transmission Install Quick Question

I just replaced my clutch with a SPEC stage 3. Anyway, when we pulled the tranny out, we pulled the bell housing and tranny in one piece. It was kind of a pain to do it that way. My question is, when reinstalling, is it easier to seperate the two pieces and install the bell housing first, and then the transmission? Or just put them in as one piece? Thanks!!

Ive always done it in pieces.

Yup. Pieces. Easier to get to those top bellhousing bolts that way too.

I've got the bell housing on now, and the trannt is about an inch and a half from being in. Can't seem to get the thing to go the rest of the way. I have a floor jack supporting the rear of the tranny, the input shaft is sort of in, but still stuck!! Any tips??

Did you use a clutch alignment tool to hold the disc in place while tightening the pressure plate? If the disc is misaligned, then you'd be about that far off.

Be sure to put the tranny in at the right angle - straight in - to the motor.

Exactly & dont let the trans hang from the clutch disc hub.
Good way to help make it chatter.
If it refuses to go I'd recheck the cluch's alignment.

I used the tool supplied by SPEC. Junk. It has quite a bit of play in it. I'm borrowing a manley tool tonight and will give it another shot. I've got a couple of friends who had the exact same problem. Thanks for the tips!!
