What shifter do you have?
Sounds like your front stop is out of adjustment.
If so
take them stops off, the T56 doens't need them.

I feel like everybody has a different opinion on the stops...do certain year transmissions need them, and others dont? Whats the deal with these things?
I rebuild these things on the side at my home.
I have done about a Dozen so far.
On my own car I have the B&M Ripper that when I first installed it , I put the Stops in.
After I started rebuilding them I found that these trannys do indeed have built in stops.
Its in the Gear Guide Plate. I guess you could Break the Pin that holds the guide lever to the Shift rod. That would be pretty tough, but it could happen. And if you had the stops on the shifter It MIGHT keep you from bending the shift for More than it would already be from Breaking the other part in the first place.
Im My opinion , the stops on the shifter can cause more problems than they can actually save.
So to sum this up.
I rebuild these trannies , I know how they work inside, and I Don't have stops on mine.
