Default Hard to shift

I have a 1998 trans am. It has become difficult to shift into first and reverse. I replaced the clutch and now it is still difficult to shift into first and reverse. Now the clutch feels different. When I start to release the clutch after putting it into first gear, it engages immediately. As long as I have owned the car I had to release the clutch about an inch or so before it engaged. Does this sound like a slave cylinder? I did not replace the slave cylinder.
Any help would be very appreciated.

sounds like a slave cylinder or a master cylinder. I had to replace both. After a while, my clutch stopped disengaging completely.

I'm having about the same exact problem, but I did replace the slave cylinder. Just finished a LS7 swap with new flywheel, PP, and slave cylinder. I'll try some more bleeding tonight, but its kind of a mystery...
