Bellhousing Removal...

Default Bellhousing Removal...
I'm in the process of changing my clutch in my 98 ss. Everything so far has gone fairly well, I just pulled out my t56 today and took the 8 bolts out to the bellhousing. Now here is the problem I can not get the housing loose, Ive beaten on it and everything. The only progress I have made is about a 3cm gap on the bottom of it, so basically I'm stuck so any suggestions on how to get this damn thing off?

Using the vent hole at the bottom, stick a prybar in there and GENTLY work it around.. Everything is aluminum.

How many bolts have you removed, there may be one at the top still connected. I would double check just to make sure. Mine popped off pretty easy at 120K.

I'm pretty sure there is 8 total and I have all 8 removed. The clutch and all looks original so this thing probably never has been taken off. I just can't get it to pry off.

I had a hole above the starter where I could insert a prybar to get it moving.

I also put the bar in there too still only a few centimeters and that's about it.

Probably stuck pretty good on the dowel pins if you have all the bolts out. A little carefully applied heat to the area around the pins can be a big help!

I thought about heat but haven't tried it yet. I guess it would be worth a shot.

I was in this same boat last night. I gave up on it a couple of weeks ago because the bellhousing seemed to be stuck and NOT moving anywhere. I started in on it again last night, with my pry bars, carefully. I took the starter out because i though that was hanging it up, not the case. What it turned out to be was the dowel on the top right side. It was just wedged in there really really tight. I used the largest pry bar and even though it took a hefty nudge, just keep working it and it will eventually come loose. There's 8 bolts holding the bellhousing on, so if you have 8 you have them all.
