clutch problem
clutch problem last month i started my car up when it was really cold and the clutch stayed on the floor when i stepped it in for awhile. i heard a sound that sounded like a spring came loose but i couldn't find one anywhere. now my clutch does not engage until it is half-way to the floor. the first half is incredibly easy and is definately not doing anything. any ideas as to what is wrong?

The clutch system consists of the following. Clutch master cylinder attatched to the clutch pedal. Hydraulic hose from clutch master to slave attatched to transmision. Inside the bell housing is the Flywheel, clutch disc, and the clutch pressure plate. Possibly the hydraulics or slave. the slave does have a spring on it. that could possibly be the spring you heard. there are also springs on the actual clutch friction disk but i doubt thats what you heard. Being your car is a 98 also leads me to believe its the slave/master unless you upgraded yours. Im merely a do it myselfer, but installed my clutch 2 days ago so all this info is fresh in my head hehe. Hope i helped.

thanks for the info, but does anyone have any ideas as to why the clutch is limp upto the halfway point? i really don't want to tear my clutch apart unless someone can tell me what's wrong. thanks
