Correct. With the automatics, the hatch will not be allowed to open using the button under the dash unless the car is in park. It recieves a signal from the computer that tells it that the car is in park and allows it to operate. With the manual trans in the car it cannot get that signal so you have to cross the wires for it.

Ok so now the tranny swap is done, I picked it up yesterday from mechanic and he told me that I needed to find the wires to cross to make it where I can delete my auto shifter. My auto shifter is still hooked up and he said it wont start without it.. and my brake lights will stay on unless I pull up on brak pedal pretty hard. I know y'all have supplied me with greaat information and links. But could you tell me which wires to cross and maybe how to fix my brake pedal problem.

If he is saying to pull up really hard on the break pedal then he must think that the pedal arm is contacting the switch. The switch that you plugged into the pedal setup is adjustable if that is the case. I will look at the article again on the brake light wires.

Directly from page 3 of the article I linked: There are some wiring issues, which need to be resolved before the Z is roadworthy: the clutch switch, VSS, brake lights, and reverse lights (and hatch release if so equipped). First: ignore the reverse lockout (rear upper driver-side of T56) and skip shift (middle driver-side of T56) connections. Check out this pre-clutch pedal photo: [U]The switch above the brake pedal with two connectors is for brake lights and cruise control--swap this from your brake setup and adjust it for the new pedal. The black clutch switch to the left of the clutch pedal prevents the car from starting unless the clutch pedal is depressed. Connect it to the green and purple/white striped wires to enable. For those of you with a power hatch release, connect the orange/black striped and black wires.
To activate the reverse lights, I bought a new pigtail and tapped into the brown and light green wires in the harness above the trans, then plugged the pigtail's brown connector into the backup light switch on the passenger side of the T56. There are a couple of photos in there that give a good shot under the dash for a reference. If you need any more help just let us know.

If i remember correctly, when you cross the clutch switch wires (green and purple/white stripe) those are the ones that bypass the automatic shifter park signal. If that doesnt work I will tear my console apart to find out. Thats how sure I am, but everyone is wrong sometimes.
