can you sleave the input shaft

Default can you sleave the input shaft

T56 input shaft is worn and grooved,,,, ate up the pilot bushing. when i put the new pilot bushing on the input shaft it doesnt fit as well as i would like it to. i know you can R&R input shafts but i was wondering if there is a sleeve kit to just re sleeve the end of the input shaft (the part that goes into the pilot bushing)?

hmmm misspelled sleeve in the title....

I believe you can sleeve it, but youd have to remove it from the case to machine it correctly. Someone correct me if Im wrong.

Yeah you have to cut the tip down and press on a new hardend sleeve with the same od as the original tip was before the damage.

does the main shaft need to be removed from the transmission in order to do this or can you do it with the shaft still attached?

You need to remove the input shaft from the transmission in order to do it.

hell if i have to take the shaft out i mind as well replace it (not sure of the price of a new shaft) or have TDP fix it for me. anyone taken the input shaft out of a T56? is it something that fairly simple to do? i have a T56 repair manual

Take the from cover off and raise the from of the trans up so nothing ca fall out grasp the input and carefully pull it out. Might catch on the counter shaft a lil bit but just give it a lil wiggle it will pull right out just keep the trans in that position so nothing falls out. Pretty strait for ward procedure just sent my LT1 input to TDP to be lengthened to swap it in an LS car. Great guys that know what there doin highly recomend them!
