Default Checking my T56

I bought a 112K mile T56 out of a 1995 Z28 that the plan is to swap into my L98 Iroc.

How can I check the tranny to know its in good condition before swapping it in. A couple things I have noticed while looking it over is that it had the "stock" clutch or a stock replacement one put in. That tells me some "gear head" like us didnt put in a grippier clutch, and tells me it may not have been beaten on.

I did notice the clutch has slightly more than average hotspots on the PP and flywheel (maybe that means it was driven hard??)

Its very clean for 112K.

The shifter goes into EVERY gear and while turning the input shaft the output shaft turns.

No noises when turning the input (not sure I would hear any at the slow speed I was turning it)

There is no end play in the input or output shaft.

I also noticed that in 5th and 6th gear it gets harder to spin the input shaft than it was in 1-4. Is that because they are an overdrive gear?

What else can I check aside from pulling it apart to put my mind at ease before swapping it in?

Im a manual trans noob, so bare with me.

I forgot to mention, there was a slight crack in the bell housing, and an ear broken off (on the bh) where the tranny mounts to it. I think it was from an idiot doing a clutch change and tightening the tranny to the bell to get it to seat.

Its not that much work to install it. I would stick it in the car and see if there are any issues before tearing it open unless you just want that extra piece of mind. 99 times out of a 100, a shop is going to find something to sell you when opening up a unit. You can't pay the bills $99 a time.

You might consider replacing/repairing the bellhousing though before installing it.

There's not really much to check unless you want to dig into it. I believe if you really want to you could take the frontplate off to check fourth gear (someone correct me if I'm wrong), but that will be about it without going into the trans.
