Checking my T56
How can I check the tranny to know its in good condition before swapping it in. A couple things I have noticed while looking it over is that it had the "stock" clutch or a stock replacement one put in. That tells me some "gear head" like us didnt put in a grippier clutch, and tells me it may not have been beaten on.
I did notice the clutch has slightly more than average hotspots on the PP and flywheel (maybe that means it was driven hard??)
Its very clean for 112K.
The shifter goes into EVERY gear and while turning the input shaft the output shaft turns.
No noises when turning the input (not sure I would hear any at the slow speed I was turning it)
There is no end play in the input or output shaft.
I also noticed that in 5th and 6th gear it gets harder to spin the input shaft than it was in 1-4. Is that because they are an overdrive gear?
What else can I check aside from pulling it apart to put my mind at ease before swapping it in?
Im a manual trans noob, so bare with me.
You might consider replacing/repairing the bellhousing though before installing it.
