Default Please HELP! Tranny Locked!!!

My transmission keeps getting locked in fourth gear. I have to use both hands and pull with everything I have to get it out. It did it one time in second gear a month ago. I thought it was a fluke. It didn't do it again until last week in fourth. Finally, last night it did it everytime. For the last few months, it would not stay in third gear unless I held it in gear until I release the clutch. Even then it would sometimes fall out. I thought the 3/4 shift fork and/or 3rd gear synchros were going out. But last night it would not go into third AT ALL. It wouldn't even engage. Then it kept getting locked in 4th and reverse. Sometimes it will lock but move around in the gate. But a few times it felt like something was lodged in it because it wouldnt not move at all even in the gate and felt like metal to metal.

Whats wrong? If I pull it out and have it rebuilt, what do I have to replace and how much will it cost? Thanks. I had to drive it home in first, second and fifth last night.

sounds like the keys in your 3-4 slider poped out. its the same thing that happend to me.

The 3-4 slider keys are worn out or out of place the springs behind them may be messed up too. Not a uncommon problem with the T56. I have fixed mine a few times and countless customers' as well. Be more the willing todo yours. Allso working on a few upgrades for the T56 as well. will post more about my up grades and mods to the T56 after testing if i can't brake it you woun't.

So HOW MUCH will it cost to have it rebuilt? Is this something I can do MYSELF? I am going to pull it next week. I figured I can save a little money at least by uninstalling/installing it myself. Should I go ahead and upgrade my slave and master cylinder while I am at it? What about the drill-out mod? I have 40k miles on my car now but GM replaced my stock LS1 clutch, slave and master at 25k miles. They put in a ZO6 clutch, pressure plate and flywheel but the part numbers to the new master and slave cylinder were to pre-2001. I even asked them for the new ones and they said they could only use original equipment and the only reason I was even getting a ZO6 clutch is because that was all they had. Thanks.

I'm not sure what outher shops charge but i do the laber on a stock T56 $175.00 after that is what ever the parts are. If you what one of my upgrade laber starts at $200.00 plus what upgrade parts you would like. comeing soon fully custom T56 if i can't brake it nither will you. fully custom T56 not ready for sale still in testing. Upgraded T56 are ready for sale.
