Default T-56 yokes

What are you guys running for yokes? Are you guys running stock yokes, or aftermarket units? I am trying to get my driveshaft length in my chevelle, and I am using a yoke from a turbo 350 ( same spline), but I'm not sure if it's long enough. Do I need a longer yoke, like the 8" unit, or does a stock yoke have enough bushing engagement? This is for a 97' lt1 unit that I converted to an ls t56. The turbo 350 yoke puts 3" inside the case, and leaves me 3/4" out, which should be fine, since my car is pretty low, and sprung pretty stiff on coilovers.

That is plenty of engagement. Most of the t56 yokes are 5.5" or so. I think the most important things is how much power you are putting through it and if you are going to the dragstrip with it. Stock and cast yokes will twist the yoke splines pretty easy. If you got plans for big power or slicks, I would use a C/M yoke.

The o.d. of the yoke should be in the bushing 100% at all times throughout all suspension travel. The yoke should never bottom out against the mainshaft, nor internal parts like the reluctor ring lock-ring.

I'm gonna have around 550 flywheel hp. I'm not sure what you consider "big power". No drag racing. Ever. Auto crossing, and cruising only. I have no problem buying a nice yoke, just not sure if I need one. What is a c/m yoke? Thanks for the help!

550 is enough that I wouldn't risk using a cast yoke. C/M is cromoly steel. I used a strange yoke first, which didnt fit right and i had vibration issues with. Then I got a mark williams yoke, which was much nicer, fit better all around. I just upgraded the tranny to a 32 spline output and have a slightly used MW billet yoke for sale. If your interested, PM me. The main reason for using a stronger yoke is that if you overstress the splines either with too much power or traction, they twist. Once they twist the yoke cant slide back and forth and binds the suspension or breaks the trans.
