Default Burnout Fail.. Why??

Hey guys, weird problem with a 6 speed car at the track. It's actually not my car. I have a 6 speed Corvette and I can "power brake" mine with no trouble at all, meaning I drop the clutch and immediatly press the brake to keep the car from rolling forward. I can hold it there as long as I want with no trouble. My friend cant seem to master this and I kept giving him a hard time about it Well we swapped cars at the track just for fun and now I am eating my words.. I dropped the hammer with PLENTY of rpm's and actually did alot better than he usually does cause I did a burnout for several seconds but the whole time the rpms just kept dropping until I finally had to abort the burnout and just release the brake and roll up to the line. Car has no traction control so my only other guess is that he has some KICK *** brake pads on the back?? Anyone else experience this problem?? I cant tell you exactly how high the rpms were when I dumped the clutch but they were high! and the whole burnout just continued to drop even though the go peddle was all the way down.. REALLY odd..

Oh, and his car is plenty strong enough for a burnout.. Runs 8.2X's at 87 mph in the 1/8th on 400 treadwear, all season, Kumho's

I ain't really sure what your problem is OP but as for the clutch slipping - to me that doesn't make any sense. If the clutch is slipping, the engine should not lose RPMs while trying to do a burnout. When the clutch slips the engine starts revving without the tires matching that increase in speed (whether from a dead stop or rolling). I agree that a linelock should fix the problem - I don't have any problems power braking my car but I would love to have a linelock on mine just to reduce the effort and clumsiness it takes to do a burnout and also to reduce wear on brake components.

The car needs line-lock! A slipping clutch would cause the RPM to shoot-up without maintaining wheel speed/spin. Everytime you power-brake a car you are causing your clutch to fight your brakes and this isn't ideal for eaither component.

brake bias could be different than your vette. my z28 will bog right out in the burnout box trying to do a 2nd gear burnout with the brake pedal. with the line lock it will do 3rd easily even with mickey thompsons.

Derek, With my current nitrous wiring problems you dont want me anywhere near your line lock install lol.. But to answer your question seriously I guess anytime man.. you just cant use it until you buy a clutch.. BTW, hit the car last night with the 100 shot in second gear at 3800 rpms and just sent the tires up in smoke.. shootout isnt looking promising :-/

Eh, you're not out yet. You've got a week to fix a wiring problem. Wish I was closer to take a look at it. And the spinning, a 100 shot shouldn't have too much trouble hooking even on a street tire if you aren't spraying out of the hole. You can get that figured out

The linelock Kits are stupid simple to install, and cheap. Other than tires, best drag racing mod done so far for sure

man ive never had a problem burning tires. you dont need to jam on the brake all that hard... hard to get em spinning and then ease up.. i can burn the tires with my little 5.3 out of boost for a mile while holding the brakes lol.. and with boost can burn em a mile in 2nd gear rolling at 40 mph with ease hahaha

It's not the install of the line lock that bothers me.. Its the constant bitching from the wife that I spent my one day off working on your car instead of doing whatever she wants.. I really got to get on the ball with training her lol.. Just been too busy getting the Vette ready lol.. If you actually want to get it installed soon we can but I didnt figure you were in too much of a hurry since the clutch is slipping so bad...

I'm tellin ya man.. I dont think you ever felt yours hit the way it's supposed to because of your clutch.. my 100 shot hits the tires HARD.. at a 45 mph roll in second gear I floored it and the N2O came on at about 3800 rpms and just smoked the tires.. went from 3800 to 6000 in a split second and sent the car sideways on a 275 radial.. maybe at the track it will hold a lil better, or at least I hope

maybe do the clutch, line-lock, and rear main seal together when you have a day off?
