Default Resistance in the shifter.

My son has a 2004 GTO M6, one day just out of the blue the shifter feels stiff, kinda like when you get in the car on a cold 20 degress below morning... It doesn't matter if it's driving down the road or stopped with the engine off... It does it in all gears, even when the shifter is in neutral the side to side play is stiff... The condition doesn't come and go.

I did do a search but couldn't find a similar thread.

Any possible reasons why this is happening is greatly appreciated.

Oh, the fluid level was full.
