Default Whats the deal??

I was going to spend the 1200 bucks this season on QTP headers and y-pipe...but i'm beginning to think i'm going to need a clutch soon, it just feels like it doesnt grab like it used to. I dont know the first thing about clutches, but in your opinion do you think i'd be better off getting a clutch that will stick before i do the headers...it seems pointless to me to add more power if i dont have a good grabbing clutch. Other than that, i've been looking for a clutch that is going to be firmer than stock and for some reason 90% of you guys say you like the stock feel. WHY!? I hate not being able to feel the clutch firm under my foot. If any of you read this who like the firm feel, what do you recommend, i'm considering Ram or Carteck. Thanks all!

For all-out performance, IMHO Ram is the way to go. It's not cheap tho. (~$800 for the VDS/910). Cartek isn't much less than that, but they're not SFI certified (which is why I removed the Cartek from my car - it was a good clutch, I liked it, but there are a rare few that have exploded - search for clutch exploded in this forum).

For good bang-for-buck performance, Spec 3 Ceramic is what I'd go with. I think they're under $500.

I've got the Ram VDS/910 in my car. It holds good with slicks & 6500 RPM dumps. I like it.

That all sounds good, and holy sh*t about the exploding clutches, i think i'll stay away from that then. I dont do much racing at a real strip and i doubt i'll ever do slicks while i'm still in school (next 3 years or so) for now i doubt i'll ever get horsepower past 450 at the wheels, im not lookin to do more than bolt ons. Hows ur Ram feel in relation to stock....like i said before i'm looking for a firmer feel. Hate these pansy clutches that u can barely feel under ur foot.

The Ram feels stiff. It's good, I like it. It's stiffer than my Cartek was... And I had friends complain about the Cartek (wusses I'm a 165 lb weakling too ). Gears really help with the 'feel' of a clutch - and I have 4.56's out back. I do have to slip the Ram more than the Cartek - perhaps because the Ram grabs better. I don't know if I'd like driving the Ram with 3.42 gears out back. The Spec 3's are a little 'easier' to drive.

I do have a McLeod adjustable master, and put a new slave in, and did the drill-out mod on the line.
