For those who have installed a LS7 clutch in their 4th gen f-body I would like to hear your thoughts on it. I did some research and came across this thread, last post, stating issues they have seen from the LS7 clutch. For those that have the LS7 clutch how many miles have you put on it and have you experienced any problems?

Also, do you need a LS2 flywheel or can a LS7 flywheel be used? If I remember right I thought the C5's need the LS2 flywheel when using the LS7 clutch. I am not sure what the 4th gen's need.

I have had the LS7 in my 02 WS6 for about 20,000 miles and I love it. Now, before you think its a great racing clutch, I don't race my car. I USED to race it but when I blew out a Textralia clutch, I put this one in for stock feel and reliability, and it has held true on both. I have yet to take it to the track but honestly I wanted something OEM quality that I could count on without getting a calf workout daily. It has been so long since it was installed, I can't comment on the flywheel but I *THINK* I did need to get the LS2 flywheel also.

There is no standard "LS2" flywheel.

You need the flywheel that is recessed, and it looks like this:

The LS2 and LS7 flywheel are the same

Yup, LS2 and LS7 are the same flywheel. I just installed mine over this weekend, hope to take it for a spin tonight. I had similar "non-race" usage - my 'vert will be a street only car. While I do drive it a little hard, I am not doing 4k clutch dumps on the street as it'd just light up the 275/45's anyway. I wanted OE feel, comfort, and durability.

I just purchased a GM LS7 clutch kit from a non sponser for a great price. I am glad you like it though as I really wanted to order a monster clutch but didnt realize Coloradospeed.com had a $125 off sale so it would have been the same price!!
Did you use a shim with your install? I am have been reading some people use them and some dont so just curios as to your opinion since you just did it.

Just to clarify - the car is still on jack stands from the install. I can't really comment on if I like it. In theory, it's all good to me - OE feel/durability, handles a bit more power. Good upgrade for a stock LS1.

As for the shim, no. And I actually was getting worried I needed one. I thought I bled the clutch really well (replaced all hydraulics), but it was VERY tough to get into gear, and I couldn't get the wheels to stop spinning - the clutch wouldn't disengage. I used a motive powerbleeder the first time too.

Luckily, I put on a Tick Speedbleeder, so it made bleeding a snap. Did two more VERY thorough iterations and it seems to be functioning properly now. Engages very close to the floor, which most people report is the case until it breaks in/self adjusts.

In fact, time to go crack a cold one and get out there to get the thing off the stands!

Let me know how it turns out bro, mine is on the way and I havent ordered a shim so I am curious to see how you like it. I did order a remote bleeder from Monster it was cheaper than the speed bleeder and he said it works just as well.
Hey as long as I dont have to get under the car to bleed it anymore then I am happy.

I've had a LS7 clutch assembly in mine for years. Street & autocross, no drag racing. The first time I had it installed it never disengaged, so we shimmed it. Later I switched to a Tick adjustable master and the shim wasn't needed. I have the Fidanza aluminum flywheel so I just replace the steel insert and/or disc when it gets worn.

I've had the ls7 fly and clutch for about3 yrs, 30,000 miles. Works as it did new. Burn outs and downshifts nice. Used mity vac too bleed. When installed. Still engages like new.. With the mity vac u bleed it from the resovoir

For those interested I am providing details on my LS7 clutch install. So far, for the couple drives I have been on, everything works great. The clutch is smooth and slightly stiffer than my LS1/LS6 one was. My car is a 2002 so that clutch was ~12 years old, probably why the feel is different. I think the clutch engages lower than my 2008 Corvette does but it works and feels great, my Corvette has 14,XXX miles so the clutch is not brand new. LS2’s, LS3’s and LS7’s all have the same clutch; I had my dealer check part numbers.

Here is the part numbers for everything I purchased, all GM parts:

LS1 Parts:
Master Cylinder 12570277
Slave Cylinder 24264182
Rear Cover 12639250 (This is a redesigned cover for LS1’s and includes a rear main, cover gasket, cover and bolts. How you can tell: the old one has 10mm bolt heads and the new one has 13mm bolt heads.)
Pilot Bearing 14061685
Flywheel Bolts 11569956 (These come with pre applied loctite)
I screwed up and completely forgot about pressure plate bolts, still kills me. Car will be taken apart in a year for a thorough clean so I’ll get those then.

i have a stock ls7 clutch as well...500rwhp...no issues...i do mostly highway pulls. have not done much launching on it at all though
