Pilot Bearing Install Help
Then once I have one, I heard you can install it backwards? And should I use any lube? Tell me EXACTLY the way I need to install it. Thanks

BTW I'm asking because the last one I put in only lasted 5 months.
As far as install, some people will say you can hammer it in, others might think its not a good idea. Grease will help, but ive also read that putting the bearing in the freezer will help out a bit too. Not too sure on that though.
And yes there is a front and back. The front(side you will see when it is installed) part is the completely rounded/covered side, the back(side that goes in first) is the side that has the separated spot where the metal rolls together. If you haven't already just look at the bearing when you remove it.
There are 2 good methods that I have used that work well without gouging or damaging the bearing. First and best in my opinion is a small square piece of wood with very even sides. This will insure that the bearing goes in evenly and will not bind up. You can edge the bearing in where it will stay, put the piece of wood against it and beat it with a hammer! The other method is to get a socket that is just big enough to not go into the bearing and have plenty of area of contact on the bearing. Same method as with the piece of wood.
