Question about a conversion - tranny specific I've got a 91 Camaro RS that I'm putting a 99 LS1 into.
Will the original 5-speed tranny bolt up to the LS1? The guy I bought the car from said it was rebuilt for racing, so I'm pretty sure it'll hold up to the LS1's power. But will it bolt on?

Since you can bolt a TH400 to a LS1 (with the exception of 1 bolt), I'd say that physically, it would "mostly" bolt up. Now, whether the LS1 clutch will work with a T5 is another question. Keep in mind the LS1 crank bolt pattern is different than the SBC, so you must use an LS1 clutch. And will the T5's throwout mechanism work? That, I don't know.
Also, as for strength, the T5 is inherently a weak trans. I have seen the internals, and compared to the T56, they're *tiny*. It may be "built for racing", but I wouldn't expect it to live long. I'd sell it and get an LS1 T56. That way there's no doubts about it bolting up, the clutch, or its longevity.
