Default Able to access reverse gate at any speed

Over the last week I've noticed that the shifter will go into the reverse gate during normal driving speeds. I know when it's difficult to get it into R at idle to check the fuse, but how do I troubleshoot this issue?

The PCM controls the ground for the circuit, de-energizing the solenoid at more than 5 mph. There may be a short to ground somewhere. Were it disconnected you would have the opposite problem of being unable to shift into reverse. Start at the solenoid on the transmission and follow the wires as far as you can to check for any cut or pinched sections.

You could also try unplugging the harness from the transmission, then try to shift into reverse. If it won't go into reverse easily, the solenoid is good and the problem is in the wiring. If it still goes into reverse while unplugged, the solenoid is broken / stuck.

The PCM energizes the solenoid below 5mph. When there is no power to the solenoid, it will lock you out of 6th gear.
