Short throw shifter question?

Short throw shifter question? I have a 2000 ws6 trans am. Motor and t-56 transmission are out of a 2004 GTO. I ordered a mgw shirt throw shifter and they called and said it wouldn't work with my transmission. They said I would have to change out the pivot cup. Has anyone ever done this? What about ordering a shifter made for a 04 GTO? Would it work in the f body without me having to cut around the shifter or anything like that?

The shifter cups are in a differenr location, about 1/2 to 5/8 farther back on the GTO. My first shirt throw I bought I cut the base off in the back, added it to the front and drilled new holes. When a part needed replaced the seller saw what I had done and at that point offered and revised shifter setup with proper hole location for the gto and upgraded wear item
It's simply pinned in, iirc you can hammer the dowel straight down, slide off the gto cup and install the fbody one

Drive out roll pin and put a Camaro shifter cup on, then use and f body shifter.
