Tranny ? Is the manual tranny in the 98-02 V6's the same as the manual v8? I am fixing to build a LS1 to go in a v6 T/A, and the v6 has a manual transmission on it. I don't know if I need to buy a tranny or not??? Any help will be appreciated. 
C5 I think I can help you here. I am doing the same project currently.
The bellhosing on a T5 will not bolt up directly to an LS1. You will need to put a different bellhousing on. There are a few ways to do this. You can find a bellhousing that fits onto an LS1 and adapt to your trans or you can get one made for you.
I know of a non-sponsor company that has a bellhousing that works. It is fairly pricey but yet cheaper than buying a used T56 for $1,000 +.
I found a lot of people on the LS1 boards are naysayers and say that the T5 won't work and blah, blah, blah. I know it is possible and am in the process of proving them wrong. The 3rd gen V8 Camaros used a T5 and so have Mustangs for years now. Just another point to consider.
