Default Does anyone know how to modify a T5 input shaft?

Where they cut off the clutch splines, weld, and machine new spines? Wanting to take a Ford T5, and use a GM factory clutch setup.

Thanks.

I wonder if you just took the gm input shaft and duplicate it to the fords shaft. You know
just look at them side by side
I know that sounds like a generic worthless response but that would be where I would start.

it would be a lot easier just to buy a friction plate to suit your box.

You are working too hard.

Ford has a 11" or 12" disc that fits a T5 large spline that will mate with the LS PP and Flywheel. Late model Cobra IIRC. I have one here somewhere maybe I can dig up a PN.

The real question is what bell are you using...

Also you can swap input shafts as it is 4th gear where all are 1:1. So if you have a GM input shaft just swap it over. Reshim as necessary for correct play. (see 5speeds.com)

Easier still, get a 4th gen T5.

Add to that, swap to a GM input bearing retainer sleeve and you can run the Speedway GM hydro TO bearing and save some dollars over the Mustang stuff.

It depends on what Ford T5. The ideal one for a V8 is a T5-Z, and the GM input would still need work to fit it.

4th gear is 1:1 because of how the shafts interact and where the synchro locks them for 4th however, you cannot mix input shafts at will since power for all other gears passes through the headset gears of the maindrive and countershafts. The V6 ratio 4th gen T5 is a poor match for a V8, as an understatement.

Welded material isn't recommended for resplining.

Can you get a couple new shafts put together? Yep.
