Flywheel balancing
Hey guys, I have kind of a noob question for you.
My clutch chatters pretty bad on downshift and my pedal is pretty high so I am replacing the clutch soon. As for the flywheel I figured I would buy a new OEM style instead of resurfacing the old one.
will the new OEM flywheel need to be balanced or will it be ready to blot on and go??
Thanks

as long as your motor is still stock in terms of a rebuild where it was rebuilt as a "external" (rear) balanced motor a stock replacement FW is plug & play. If your motor has been rebuilt they typically are "internal" balanced motors so you either buy a neutral balance FW or have a stock one neutral balanced for about $50
If the current FW has not been resurfaced and is not heat cracked or worn with grooves in it, than a resurface is fine. Generally $40 at a machine shop

Well I had my flywheel in my hands about 2 years ago and figured I could get a couple a more summers off my clutch so I replaced the throw out bearing and pilot bearing and put her all back together again
what I noticed about my flywheel is that while there was no actual weight on it there was a spot on the back that had more "meat" on it and then blind holes drilled into it which is what I assumed was for balancing
To me it looked like it was a factory stock flywheel
If i need balancing what will i expect the symptoms to be??
I assume it will be a rough idle with a bad vibration
I have only owned this car for about 3 years so I have no idea what has been done to it

stock FW has a cast in weight on the back and can also have a few blind holes drilled in various places also. If your motor is a stock build than any replacement FW for the LT1 should work
pic of what the "cast" in weight looks like
