Default Slop in 5/6?

Been having an issue with 5th and 6th lately. When off the throttle and decelerating, I get a thumping noise from the transmission, and the car bucks slightly as well, almost as if I'm tapping on the brakes.

Put the car in the air and with the trans in 1st-4th, the driveshaft has minimal play. When in 5th and 6th, it has a LOT of slop. I'm planning on taking the trans out in a couple of days and pulling the extension housing off. Are there any ideas what could cause this?

If this is a T56, the 5/6 driven gear on the main shaft like to get loose. I'm in the process of rebuilding mine. When I got down to the 5/6 on mine, it just slid right off. It's supposed to be press fit on the shaft. I had to send the shaft and gear off to get it repaired.
