Default 5/6 binding

So tore the t56 down a bit (removed extension housing and reverse) and I'm finding that 5/6 are binding. Brand new mainshaft and 5/6 cluster. Checked with tick and they said my install height looks correct for the cluster. Anyone ever run into an issue like this?

Did some more investigating. The trans is in neutral, but I can feel that every 1/2 turn or so (turning in the "drive" direction) there's a resistance. On the "coast" direction, it's about every 1/4 turn or so. used a torque wrench to measure and the regular amount of force required to turn the mainshaft is about .5 ft lbs. Once it starts "binding" this increases to 1.5. I looked at the wear pattern on the 5/6 cluster. Looks veeery close to the base of the gears. Which according to the service manual means it needs replacing, which is odd considering it's a brand new cluster.

Going to pull 5/6 and see if the issue remains. If it does, the only thing I can think is a failed bearing allowing the countershaft to "walk" and causing a misalignment of the gears.

Whelp, just gonna post this up for anybody else who runs into this issue:

So the issue wasn't 5/6 at all. It turns out it was the 3/4 shift fork. I had upgraded it to the steel one with bronze pads. After disassembling the case I found a lot of wear on the pads.

As you can see, both pads have wear in the center from poor fitment onto the hub slider, meaning that basically the forks were out of spec and too narrow for proper fitment. On top of that, in the first image you'll see that the wear marks have a taper to them, meaning the fork itself was cocked or twisted, causing uneven wear there as well.

Got a replacement on it's way, will update this when I get the new one and verify the issue is gone.

You sure the hub's not out of round? The way it grabs and lets go leads me to this. Did you measure the gap of the stock fork vs new one?

*sighs* I did, and the new one was waaay different. Even the guy I bought it from, when I messaged him about it, said he'd had a batch of bad ones that he thought he'd gotten rid of (apparently I'm just lucky)

However, that didn't solve my issue at all. Car is still whining in 5/6 and bucking while coasting.
