Default Dropping the Transmission, How HARD is it??

I have a 2000 Firebird with a T56 (manual) and I am about to have the transmissions stiffen up a bit. I am wondering if me and some friends could drop the transmission in the garage or are we out of our league? We have access to an air compressor and tools and one friend is very knowledgeable about the matter. Or is it better that I pay someone to uninstall and re-install the transmission once it is rebuilt?

You shouldn't have a problem, me and my buddy pulled mine in the garage to put a new slave in and it only took us and evening to get it all done. Just take is slow and have a REALLY long extenion for the upper most tranny bolts.

My buddy and I pulled his T56 a couple of times with the help of one other guy and two small jacks. Quite easy to do, I'd recommend draining the tranny first so the fluid doesn't leak out the tailshaft. Also make sure you have a really long extension for a couple of the bellhousing bolts.

If you pull the tranny first, you can leave the bellhousing in place... and don't have to hit those upper bellhousing bolts right away. I do it that way most of the time. It works well for me. Just remember to either disconnect the slave, or detach it (2 10mm bolts on the face of the trans).

I've done it in a driveway that had a fairly steep incline, by myself. It's not that bad. (but then again, with a lift, it's MUCH easier )

Just to clarify, I meant the bolts that hold the tranny to the bellhousing. We didn't touch the clutch when we pulled my friend's tranny so we left the bellhousing in place.
