Default T56 inspection

Hey guys, I just took off my t56 front plate to replace the input shaft seal. Never done any transmission work so figured I’d make a video to make sure all is well:

Thanks for any guidance!

That play is normal with the front plate off. The nose on the input shaft is damaged and most likely the pilot bearing is as well. You cannot tell the condition of the rest without a full tear down.

Thanks for responding - in what way is the input shaft nose damaged, and should I replace the input shaft?

The nose that sticks into the pilot bearing looks damaged. Post a better picture, if it's not too bad some emory might clean it up.

There is some very slight uneven-ness on the surface I can feel if I run my fingernail along it.

That will definitely ruin a new pilot bearing. You can have the nose repaired for $65 plus shipping. They don't offer the LT1 input shaft anymore unless you were to buy a used one that's good. If you need info on where to send it pm me.

I actually don’t have pm capabilities yet since I just joined, but I might be able to receive pm’s if you want to send me one.
