New pressure plate failed <100 miles in
Hey y’all,
For those who haven’t followed my previous posts regarding this whole fiasco, let me summarize it. About a month ago, my shifts started getting really stiff. The clutch was slowly starting to not disengage. The flywheel, clutch disc, pressure plate, and slave cylinder all had about 10K miles on them. Here’s everything I did to try to fix it:
- Replace master cylinder
- Religiously bleed hydraulics
- Replace slave cylinder
- Replace master line gasket
- Shim slave cylinder accordingly
None of those did the trick. So I finally bit the bullet and replaced the pressure plate. I ordered the same McLeod kit I got before (MCL 75257) While the clutch was off, I started the car with just the flywheel to make sure it was smooth. And it was, no vibration to the touch or by sight. The pressure plate fixed my issues, and my shifts were smooth and crisp, better than it ever was. I didn’t replace my clutch disc because I didn’t want to go through breaking in a new one, and the current one was new enough.
Well, as I was driving today, not even 100 miles into the new pressure plate, my shifts started getting a little crunchy, just as they had when I originally started having this problem. It got worse and worse, to the point where I’m back at square one: the clutch doesn’t disengage. The pedal feels completely fine. I’m returning this kit and ordering an LS7 clutch kit instead. My question is how did this fail so early and quickly? This makes no sense.
