Default T56 doesn’t want to go into reverse.

So, this is a rather odd post. I have an LS1/T56 out of an ‘04 GTO that I’m putting into my ‘81 Corvette. The body is currently off the frame, and I just got the engine and transmission on, after having the engine send out for some work and having the clutch replaced. I didn’t not do any transmission work, beyond just cleaning up some grime in the bell housing.

So the transmission is now mated to the engine again and everything is bolted in, but that’s about it. No body, no clutch pedal, no nothing - just engine/trans on frame. I tried rowing through the gears just to make sure everything worked, and 1-6 were fine, but I couldn’t get into reverse. I had the engine/trans on a pallet for quite a few months, so I can’t remember if it was always like this or if this is something new. For reference, the trans has the Hurst shifter, but I planned on swapping it out for an MGW or Tick f-body short shifter (with the f-body shifter cup) so that it sits in a better position.

So, am I doing something wrong here? Is there something special you have to do to get this thing into reverse? Is it possible the new clutch or lack of clutch disengagement is preventing me from doing so? Or is it more likely that there's an issue with the transmission?

TL;DR - Engine/trans are out of car, new clutch, no trans work, transmission goes into 1-6 but not reverse. Am I doing something wrong? Or is trans work needed?

Will the shifter not go over far enough to reach reverse or not engage the gear?

Lean into it so you can over power the Reverse Lockout Solenoid that's blocking you out since nothing is energized.

If power was to it and it was controlled properly, it would dis-engage and allow you into Reverse with no problems.

If you want to test with it off, it's the component on the back of the T56 right below the Shifter with the black plastic Connector Housing sticking out of the brass looking hex part. Unbolts with a 13mm Bolt below it in the side of the Tailhousing.
