Default why not cartek?

Like many others it is time for a clutch. I really like what cartek as to offer. Any comments on the cartek setup. It used to be the "the one to get". Thanks.

i have cartek and its miserable i would never in a million years get another one. the feel of this clutch is crap and it feels like its a clutch at the end of its life the engagement point is at the end of the pedal like 1 1/2 inches from the end. i'd get a spec stage 3 in a heart beat it makes the tranny feel beefier ( if thats even a word ). if u have a 98-00 get the upgraded 01 master cylender too. u wont be sorry

There are a slew of 10 and 11 second cars happily and successfully running the CARTEK clutch, most are also street driven cars as well.

I have had a cartech in car for year or two. Some things about it.The cartech modified stock master is a piece or junk.I would never hold its setting.I tried ot modify it with no luck.I got a mcleod master and it works fine.At least its consistent but pedal pressure with the mcleod set to where they recommend it is crazy high. But at least the car goes into gear.

Some say the cartech chatter.Mine was absolutely horrible on break in but is good that way now.Now chatter. It does seem to get grabby after driving it for awhile and this makes it hard to drive in slow or heavy traffic.I have to leave room to launch otherwise it can be a jerky experience.
As to holding it seems good.Only likely have around 350 rwhp right now.
It never smells which I like and it can be slipped.

The pedal pressure was much lower with the stock modified master.
If I could get the pedal pressure back down then would be fairly happy with the clutch. But the grabbiness gets a bit annoying too. That may also be worse now with nitto drag radials since think the normal tires spin a bit more on launch and help to make it smoother. Also going up to 3.73 or 4.10 gears helps too.I had them in for a bit but took them out due to terrible whine.
The stock 3.42 gears are not the best for launching the clutch smoothly.

I think cartech may have changed their disc since got my clutch.

I am interested in hearing from anyone who has the cartech clutch and mcleod master if their pedal pressure is insanely high.Mcleod recommends setting the master to just slip over the pedal when its at its max height from floor resting on stop. This works fine for getting my gears but makes the pressure very high.I was also wondering if taking off the return springs would help things out any.

i love my cartek clutch. i used to beat it up pretty good at the drag strip, but i don't drag too much anymore (well i did go to the finals last month at the GM EFI shootout at e-town). i take it road racing for 30 minutes at a time, 4 times a day, and it doesn't miss a beat. i take it to work sometimes, and get stuck in crazy NYC traffic, and i have no issues. would highly recommend it

I have the Cartek clutch. Love it. Pedal effort is slightly higher then stock, but the engagement/disengagement is nice and it's easy to drive. I drive it everyday. I have their modified master (which allows you to change the engagement point) and it works great for me. Never had it slip on the strip, autox, or road course. I would highly recommend it.

That's all you need to know.

My Cartek clutch held so well I broke my stock rear with only 383 RWHP. A buddy of mine has an 11.3 second LS1 with a Cartek, no issues. I know a couple other local guys that ran 10's/11's with their Cartek clutch. Why Cartek doesn't get more press on this board is beyond me. That 1998 Bright Green Metallic Z28 in GMHTP a few months ago went 10.69 @ 126 all motor, stock short block, 6 speed with a Cartek clutch and heads/cam from them. There aren't too many faster all motor, 6 speed cars with a stock short block...
