Default Spec 3 Break-In

I just got finished installing a Spec 3 last night and I want to take it to the track tomorrow. I know the break-in is supposed to be 400 miles. I called Spec about this, I suggested 10 10 mile trips with cool down between and he said that would probably work fine.

I'm just asking if anyone has a quick opinion/horror story about trying to break-in their clutch quickly, then take it to the track.

I replaced the flywheel with an AMS racing flywheel. It chatters if you try to slip it, for the incredible grip compared to stock, I can live with it if it never goes away.

Thanks,
Brian

I would not even think about beating on a new clutch without proper break-in. When I got my clutches installed I drove the cars for about a week in town, all stop-n-go traffic. I have a tendency to go to the extreme and have been known to be overly cautious. I drive my new clutches for a minimum of 500 miles in short trips with plently cooldown time. I make sure the clutch is ready before I whoop on it! The disk has to seat properly with the flywheel or you'll be spending more $$$$$$$

Your new clutch is to much of an investment to destroy by just trying to get it to the the track. If you don't break it in it won't last. Do it right.

Make Sure The Clutch Is Broken In B/f The Track Or You'll Reget It Later. PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE. destroy your new toy when the time comes....

100 miles on it and it still has some chatter at low RPM in higher gears and in 1st. If the chatter doesn't go away when the clutch is engaged then I probably won't risk it. Considering I didn't enjoy installing it very much and it was kinda pricey I don't feel like doing it again soon.

I was hoping to see someone say that they took their car to the track the next day and the clutch slipped from then on, that would convince me!!

The type on person who buys an F-car is generally not a patient one!

Thanks,
Brian

well your gonna have to do a few clutch dumps to get the chatter to go away .. get one or 2 good ones in there and it should be gone with nothing but smooth

Well contrary to popular opinion and judgement I took it to the track yesterday. I had about 200 miles of stop and go on it. Still chatters some, but I can drive it so it won't also.

Anyway, it grabs like mad. I don't know how long my 10-bolt can withstand the abuse. I ran my personal best 60' 2.0 ET 12.90@109.7mph. I installed a B&M shifter at the same time as the clutch. Best investment ever, I didn't miss 3rd once, shifts are quicker and more precise.

I've got about 361.3 miles on the break in period for my Spec 3. I know I don't want to change it out any time soon, so I'm not going to take my chances. I haven't even gone over 2.5K rpm this whole time. I should hit 400 tomorrow though (if it doesn't rain), then it's time.
