Tool for setting transmission bearings
Tool for setting transmission bearings Has anyone made the tool that is in the back of the T-56 rebuild manual for the shimming process? I gave the schematic to a friend to see if the place he works can machine it but they said its to hard of a tool to make because it will want to go out of round over the long distance since it would be under .5" in dia. what do you use for this process?

I've just 'guessed' when faced with a wobbly input shaft. Ordered a few different shims, and picked the one that felt best to me. Of course, this involved putting together and breaking down the trans several times...

no i'm talking about the one that goes through the plug in the adapter plate and into the countershaft/extension. its on the last sheet of the t-56 rebuild maunal from tremec.

Here's the tool I made for less than $10 in parts. All thats needed is some threaded rod and I used 2 locknuts and a regular one. After checking my case pre-load i found the main/input shaft was over shimmed by .010" and I needed .003" more on the countershaft. later this weekend i'll get around to checking the countershaft extension.
