Default Chopping the stock shifter?

So i wish that the throw on my stock shifter was just a little bit shorter. Is it possible to cut off some of the stock shifter in order to reduce throw distance? If so, then how do i perform this task? Thanks

A short stick would result in a shorter throw yes.
If that's the route you want to go, cut out a section of the stick and weld it back together.

you could do it too, just cut a section out and retap the threads on the end you cut. a local hardware store could prob do it for you. or u could maybe find a bolt of some sort with the same thread pitch on it.

Technically the distance between gears isn't shorter, just the feeling is. With a lot of practice shifting with a stock shifter doesn't take any longer then a shortened shifter.

Lightbulb My 2 cents...

I'd recommend buying an aftermarket short shifter handle and swapping that in. They don't cost too much and this gives us the ability to return back to the original shifter handle for whatever reason (for example, you don't like the chopped shifter, you don't want the "down time," you later decide to sell your car and want to return it to stock condition, etc.)

Just buy one of the short sticks out there. For $20, it's not worth your time and materials to do it yourself.
