Default Adjusting the Pro 5.0

I have a 5.0 with LSS. It came with the tranny package when I swapped from my A4 so I have no experience with the stocker. I do like the shifter, I never mis shift, but I drove a buddies Z28 with a Hurst shifter and it went into gear so much easier. I could bang the gears alot quicker. Is there anyway to adjust the 5.0 so it's not so hard? Especially reverse, it takes alot of muscle to go into R sometimes. If not, I'm actually thinking about getting a Hurst.

Doubtful it's the shifter. If you removed your shifter and rowed through the gears it would probably be silky smooth. The hydraulics and clutch have more to do with hard shifting than anything. Could also have worn/bent parts in the tranny. Using a Lou's Short Stick also makes for a little harder shifting because you are removing some of the leveraging affect of a longer stick. I recently put my Pro stick back on and it makes a big difference in the feel of shifting in a positive way. Doesn't have the cool look factor of a Lou's because it's longer though. See if your buddy will let you install his Hurst in your car before you waste your money buying one. I took my Pro apart and cleaned all the factory grease out. Put it back together using white marine grease and it feels so much smoother. But, it won't cure hard shifting problems. Here's a link I made last month showing the guts of the Pro, not a whole lot in there that can go wrong or that can be adjusted:

the stock hurst is ment to be smooth, but its not as strong, you give up the comfort for the durability. or maybe your trans is burnt out and time for a rebuild.

I had a Lou's short stick on my Pro 5. I thought it was too short, so I went back to the stock pro 5 stick and cut 5/8-3/4" off of it. That length feels best to me, and I'm pretty sure I can shift it faster than with the LSS.

Since you are a '99 your stock clutch systems may not be up to handling it. Have you upgraded to an '01/'02 Master Cylinder? Tried the drill mod? What year is your bud's Z28? If the shifter itself is causing the problem in the end, get ahold of whoever sold it to you, maybe they'll trade you for another 5.0 or maybe a different shifter of your choice
