What's going bad?
- Can't shift into reverse.
- All gears are getting harder to get into, nothing is smooth
- Shifts into every gear fine with the motor off
- Very little play in the clutch, 1/2 inch off the floor and you're moving forward
I first thought it was a synchro, but now ALL the gears are getting harder. That made me think the fluid needs changed. But, then I checked the clutch play and it's pretty small, so maybe a sympton w/ the master cylinder? I'm not a tranny guy but I'm willing to fix it all myself, just need to know where to start looking. I'll be chaning the fluid out to DexIII ATF or GM Synchromesh tonight or tomorrow morning. Anything else I need to be checking out? TIA.

I like having an adjustable master just so I can manipulate the freeplay, it helps quite a bit.
"Little confused by what your saying here in regards to Dexron III...are you saying you filled the transmission with a Dexron III fluid that isn't an ATF?
What brand of fluid exactly did you fill it with?

also, might want to check the color of the fluid in the master cylinder, if its all black and charred, it needs to be changed. this happens often in our cars due to the way that steel braided line runs right by the exhaust.
