Default How much work to replace just the SLIDER KEYS?

Yup stuck in 4th. Made 10 runs at the track, got stuck on 2 of them.

However the trans was driving 100% perfect on the way home. Matter of fact it was smoother than its ever been! 3rd gear is fine, all gears seem fine, I just would like to replace the (probably broken) slider key or keys with some billet ones. I read the t56 rebuild page and its involved.

How long and how hard would it be just to replace the one stinkin slider key for 4th gear? I doubt anything else is damaged.

THankXX!

The tranny will need to be removed from the car, taken apart down to where you will start replacing and then put back together. http://www.ls2.com/forums/showthread...t=t56+problems

This has happend to me 3 times! I can now pull the tranny and replace the keys (there are 3 for every synchro) and put it back in the car in about 4 hours. Maybe about 8-12 if you have never done it before.

its not a bad job to do. just take your time and w/ the manual it should be ok...just be warned that if you go w/ billet keys if they happen to come out they wont be as forgiving to other parts of your trans when they go through them as the aluminum ones.

The production incerts are not aluminum. They are stamped / hardened steel. If you are having billet ones break - they are made wrong. Any bits going through th gears is a catastrophy. Be sure the fork pads are in good shape when you build it back up.
