Excessive clutch play when cold

Excessive clutch play when cold
This has been a problem for the past two winters. When it's cold outside, I have excessive clutch play. Once the car warms up, it's back to normal. Summertime and warm weather is no problem. What's wrong here?

My car started doing that right before the hydraulics started sticking to the floor after a 1/4mi pass. I don't know if the two are related, but when they replaced my hydraulics (warranty) with 2001 parts, it went away.

Mine does this once in a great while as well. There's about 1" of "nothing" when I first push the clutch in then it feels stiff after that. Only happens when the temps are in the 30's or below and goes away within 1 mile or so of driving. It's probably done this 5 times in the year that I've owned it. Not sure if I should worry? <img src="images/icons/confused.gif" border="0">

I'll take a look in my shop manual tonight. I can't figure why cold would affect it. I'm getting real tired of having clutch play that amounts to about 1/2 of the pedal travel in the morning.
