Adjusting Pro 5.0 Shifter

Default Adjusting Pro 5.0 Shifter

I will be getting the Pro 5.0 shifter here in a couple of days. It was used so I assume it has already been adjusted, but the person I'm buying it from doesn't have the instructions. Can anyone explain or point me to a place that will have the instructions on adjustments of the shifter?

What do you mean "adjustments"? Are you talking about the stoppers? If so, just put the shifter in 3rd gear, and make sure there is enough space for a piece of paper between the stopper and the shifter stick, tighten jam nut. Then put it in 4th and repeat.

Click on the link, then go to "install documents" and look for "shifter install". There are some pretty good instructions with pics on that site.

Yeah I went to install university and they just explained how to install it. I didn't see how to adjust the stoppers.

I understand what you mean now about the stoppers and how to adjust those, but how does this help with the fork problem? It just makes sure that you can't push it too far when you are slamming through gears? Is that what it's for?

Yes. It keeps you from over shifting. Over shifting is what messes up the synchros and fork (that and missing gears).

Thanks. I'm gettin pretty good at missin 2nd - 3rd and who knows about the overshifting. Hopefully this 5.0 will resolve at least some of those problems.

I didnt set the stops on mine due to the fact that the T56 has built in stops.You cannot shift past those stops. I have a pro 5.0 and no stops set. Due to the fact that there is a internal stop built in the tranny. It is a pin mounted on the rail shaft that your shifter connects to. If anyone has there tranny out just unbolt the top piece that is covered with 4 bolts and look. You will see exactly what I mean. I am not saying not to set up your shifter stops. But I didnt just my .02 My buddy has rebuilt over 100 t 56's and he proved it too me plain as day. So I didnt set them. This is one of the reasons that the pro 5.0 feels so good on the shift pattern. Because it follows the shift pattern that sets on the rail shaft. Unlike the STOCK hurst.
