Default Hurst billet plus install ?

I just swaped out the factory shifter with the Hurst billet plus. Everything went slick except when all was said and done when shifting into reverse, the shifter hits the console and is hard to get into reverse. Everything lined up perfect so I dont know what went wrong.
Any thoughts?

Thanks

I don't know if it can be done but it may be on backwards/upside down. Just a thought.

Well seeings as we are in the process of getting about 10" of snow, I thought Id go out in the garage and take everything apart down to the shifter again. Nothing else to do...
The shifter is offset on its plate so it only goes one way, so thats on there right. It does look like its about 1/4" taller than the factory shifter. With the lower console back in place and all holes lined up the shaft that the shifter stick, (straight chrome stick) attaches to hits the passenger side clip where the top console slides into when shifting into reverse. Boy thats a mouthful, I hope you all can picture that.
The shifter stick attaches to the serrated side, (drivers side) of that shaft. Thats not a problem.
It still goes into reverse but its real tight and even tighter when the leather boot is snapped in place.
I hope that paints a better picture for you.

Thanks again

Same number also. Got it from Jegs. I know the box says 93 - 98 but thats the same number for 93 - 02 on Jegs and Hurst site.

When I look at the application chart on the box it only states 93-98. But its listed for all years 93-2002... Not sure what you should do. I would send it back as defective, its not right.

Mine went in with no problems. A little but of movement on base means a lot, did you try loosening the mounting bolts and making sure it's set correctly/or all the way to the drivers side?

Well I went ahead and pulled the whole shifter out and put it side by side with the factory one. Other than the new one being a half size bigger, the only other thing that I noticed was the factory shaft has a bend towards the drivers side, whereas the new one is straight up and down. The shaft is what hits the clip on the lower console.
What are my chances of heating up hardened steel and putting a 1/2 inch bend in it?

Thanks all

my unit leands towards the driver side but that is more the design of the whole unit than just the stick being bent. I seriously wonder if you got a defective unit. Maybe opne side was supposed to be beveled and didnt get machined properly. Its a long shot but if its the right model for the car then there is something wrong. Maybe it really doesnt fit and the application is totally wrong? Either way I wouldnt settle for it, send it back.

Called hurst tech support yesterday.
One guy said that the lower portion of the shifter can be unscrewed from the upper portion and switched out with the factory.
WRONG. Its all one solid piece.

Called back
The second guy said that it should fit with no modifications. Said it was probably mispackaged and I should send it back for a replacement.

Did that.

Waiting patiently now...

You have any pics of the installed shifter? Would like to see what it looks like installed. I am interested in this shifter but have not seen one installed. Thanks in advance.

Heere ya go. Sorry about the blurriness, but you get the idea..
This feels nice and tight compared to factory with the bend in it.

Thanks for the pics. Got mine installed today. Simple install and well worth it. The shifter feels more positive. No spongy or mushy feel to the stick. Shift gates are closer. Fifth gear doesn't feel like it is in the glovebox anymore. But I have to say the best part is how it looks in the car. I have a white ball on order PN 1630040. It is a 6 speed **** with 3/8 x 16 threads. I think it will set the whole shifter off. Later

Default Where or whom did you order yours from?

I have a 2000 SS M6 and a 69 RS-SS M21. I would like both to have that Hurst white shifter ball look. Who did you order yours from?

Thanks in advance.

Rick.

I ordered my shifter from Tbyrne but the T-**** I had to search the web for. A simple web search of hurst white **** would net you plenty of results. I honestly forget where my handle came from.
I did a quick search for ya netted this: http://hurst.carshopinc.com/index.ph...rers_id/253835
you can take it from there. It gets you close

I bought my white shiftball PN 1630040 from Autozone. Cost me $30 bucks. They had to order it in. You can also order it from summit racing.

Wow, you guys need short sticks BAD. I picked mine up used in the for sale section, but I'd definitely pay full price for one.
