Default Broke the T/A!!!!!!!!

Well, as the title says I broke my 2000 Trans Am. I was doing about 70 mph on the freeway, tried to shift down 5th and I guess I went into 3rd instead. Now, I put it in gear and it'll move but at about 2-3 mph theres a really bad clanking sound. It sounds like two gears trying to turn when one is seized. Anyways, it's saturday night, time to get trashed. See ya'll in the morning.

Call B.S. if ya want, I didn't hit 1st! 2000 s6 is having the same problem in another thread and it was mentioned that "...you broke the hub off the clutch disk...and it's rubbing against the springs on the disk...GM made the hub on the 98-00 cars that don't have the ls6 clutch way too thin..." I do, or did, have the factory clutch with 82000 miles on it, so hopefully that's it. Well see tomorrow when I finish dropping the transmission.

The noise and vibrations come from the front, right where the transmission is. I would assume that if were the ring and pinion, the noise would come from the rear.

so your car feels ok untill you touch the gas probly right, then it feels like something is spinning and grinding. If so this same thing happened to me I needed a new clutch and master cylinder. It happened to me on a light 6-5th shift, not really even gettin on it much, I guess it was just its time.

Anyone else have any problems seperating the bellhousing from the engine? I pulled the 8 bolts out and removed the starter, so it should just come off right? I've been prying on it with a couple screwdrivers, but that sucker is on there!

OK nevermind, got it. Looked at the clutch and it looks fine! Nothing really obvious just normal wear and tear. Anybody have any ideas what may have caused the grinding noise?

well if u tried to force it into gear before the synchronizers mesh. then that will cause a grind noise...remember, dont force. or your transmission will hate you for life.

You probably busted a bearing..Take it to a transmission shop to get it looked at.

Yeah dropping into 3rd at 70 is okay..but it depends on the shape of your car..How many miles?

It was the original clutch with 82000 miles, but theres no sign of significant damage except normal wear and tear. It actually looks good for that many miles. I ended up getting a SPEC 3 clutch, flywheel, pro 5.0, and 01+ slave slave today (thanks MTI!!) so we'll see if that works.
