Default flywheel questions

i have a stock flywheel that's been resurfaced, lightened, and shimmed. shimming basically means that a piece of metal was added to the back of the flywheel in whatever thickness was shaved off of the contact point of the flywheel when it was resurfaced. below is a picture of the shimming done to this flywheel (you can see where the metal material changes color - it's also between the two red arrows; hence, the shim is added on).

spec says that it is only safe to shave off .015 of your flywheel (and wouldn't you say that picture shows a bigger chunk than .015?). so can the flywheel contact point (contact point is not the side that's bolted to the engine) be resurfaced more than .015 as long as it's shimmed properly to compensate for the extra surfacing that's shaved off? i'm trying to determine if the ".015" reference is in relation to how the flywheel is bolted up to the engine, or if it's in relation to how much contact point on the flywheel is safe. this is a difficult question to ask, since it has no easy explanation. does anyone know what the hell i'm trying to ask?

i'm also wondering if this would be safe to use, or if i should just get my stock resurfaced and ditch this one?

i still donk know a whole lot about ls1 cars but i my truck is on its 2nd clutch nad the 2nd time the flywheel was realy bad and they still resurfaced it

so as long as you have enough contact position and can shim it properly i dont see a problem

but this was on a truck with a steel flywheel and a diff hydraulic setup

everyone is telling me different things on the shimmed flywheel. personally i just don't know.

according to calculations, the flywheel got about .06 removed from it when it was resurfaced. the .06 was added back on via the shim (in the picture). anyone else have an opinion?

i'm very skeptical of the shim, but at the same time, why the hell would a performance shop do this if they knew it wouldn't be sufficient?

I dont see why it would be a problem. Aslong as the engagement point is the same as stock(which is why they shimed it in the first place) Now i am not speaking from experence, i did recently do a clutch swap and used a new ram billet steel flywheel, but i plan on doing cam and nitrous soon. so for me the ram flywheel is worth the extra insurance when im going to be dumping the clutch at 5k or higher & w/nitrous.
