Default Clutch, Slave, or Syncros?

First off, the car is a 98 transam with I *THINK* an '01 T56

Here is my problem...

My car likes to grind 3rd and 5th when the tranny is cold almost all the time, unless I put the shifter in those gears slowly. When the tranny is warm, it will sometimes, and ONLY sometimes, grind 2nd and 3rd when I shift it hard at high RPM. It will still go in the gears, just grinds a little.

I am making about 400 hp at the wheels, running through a Z06 clutch right now, and had a new slave replaced a couple months ago. I have heard that the Z06 clutch will have problems with heads and cam combos making good power, and I have also heard that I may need more bleeding in my hydraulic system.

There is only 4000 miles on the car since the heads and cam were put on, and the tranny shop said the Z06 clutch had about 70% life left. The grinding has become an issue shortly after the slave was replaced.

Do you think they may have been wrong, and the Z06 clutch is bad, or is there a need for bleeding yet? Which of these do you think is more likely right now? and do you think they have done any damage to the trans as far as the grinding?

All grinding is bad. If its been doing it awhile you may need a serious rebuild( bordering on replacement)

Sounds like syncro's.. Check your fluid level. What's the condition? I believe the newer ones take DEX III "syncro Mesh" fluid.....The newer ones require a friction modifier you will find in Auto trans fluid...I'd try changing out the fluid first, cheap and easy..

Possible bent 3/4 shift fork and sychronizers damaged. I just rebuilt one with a kit from a well known performance trans shop ( not a sponsor ). Parts were about $500. It sounded like your problem.

Thanks for the leads guys, I was kind of lost because I only bought the car about 3 weeks ago and it is my first T56 expirience.
